If we did didn't keep our previous applications at the upgrade, our system is browserless. Well, apart from Edge and Internet Explorer, which still tags along, even though its suggests that we try Edge.
Microsoft apparently included IE for compatibility reasons, for apps that might be looking for it.
In any case, the first step is to and install the browser of our choice, be it Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or any other.

The second time we open Chrome, it will ask us to make it the default browser.
In Windows 7, clicking that button was enough to change default browser. In Windows 8 and 8.1, it would open a windows to select a different browser, but it still was simple.

The problem isn't just to change default browser, but to set any application as a default.
For other applications that don't have the Chrome "Set as default" button, we need to look manually for this page of settings, by searching for "default app settings"...
and then change e.g. VLC as the default app to play "Movies & TV".
